Carol Graham

Carol is Chair of the Sturgeon Foundation, a UK based college scholarship operating primarily in Uzbekistan. 

Her first career was in the US diplomatic service working in the Middle East and Europe. While posted to the UAE as the head of the press and culture section she was the only female diplomat in the country.

Later after settling in London, she became the first woman and the first ethnic minority Executive Director of the US UK Fulbright Commission.  Later she was appointed by the FCDO as a Commissioner for the Marshall Scholarships.   Carol has served on a number of boards and advisory committees including as Vice Chair of the Carnegie UK Trust. She has been an invited speaker on topics related to cultural and international exchange for university administrators, students, programme directors, scholarship boards and prior to Brexit, before the Culture Committee of the European Parliament.  The US State Department recognised Carol with a Superior Honor Award as a diplomat and later as a distinguished Fulbright Executive Director. 

In her education work Carol has continuously been involved in diversifying programme recipients to include more women, more minority candidates and more students from a variety of economic backgrounds. At Fulbright she worked with fellow European directors to create a Europe wide leadership program for outstanding young people lacking the resources and environment to access crucial skills such as presentation, writing and digital literacy. Carol is either fluent or has strong skills in French, Turkish, Arabic and Spanish.  She can speak very basic  Uzbek. She enjoys historical research, writing, foreign language series, travel and when she has time - knitting. She is a dual UK-US citizen.
